A Game Of Two Halves!

News on 1 Jan , 1990

If ever there was the proverbial ‘Game of two Halves’ this was the one….

Eagley entertained 7th place Garstang with Whaley ringing some changes in the team.  It got off to a bad start as Garstang went one up within minutes which seemed to shell shock the lads  but after a while the Eagles started to settle down and were playing some decent football. They had a couple of chances to equalize but sadly they were squandered, and  when you’re up against a decent side like Garstang they got a chance shortly before half time, and they took it well  to go two nil up at the break.
Maybe it was a joint team talk from Whaley and Marriot, but they came out fighting and showed some spirit when Jack Horan got one back to make it 2.1, and the comback continued,  and before long it was Eagley’s second which came from Jordan Cover.  But they continued to push and with 15 minutes to go it was Cover again who managed to get on the end of a long throw and they were 3-2 up!
However, desperate to hang on to the lead they soon conceded a corner which resulted in a big goal mouth scramble and a tap over the line from Garstang to share the points at 3.3
After having briefly been in front the lads felt it was more like 2 points dropped, but against a decent Garstang side to come back from 2 down the reality was it was a decent fighting performance which gives the management a good platform to work on.
Meanwhile the reserves went down 2 nil at Haslingden St Marys.
